DOT Accident Testing in Tempe
24/7 DOT Accident Testing Support for Tempe Employers
After a commercial motor vehicle crash, employers need to determine quickly whether federal post-accident testing criteria apply. When they do, the driver may need drug and alcohol testing within separate federal time limits.
We provide these collections for employers, fleet managers, safety managers, human resources personnel, and designated employer representatives. Our after-hours and post-accident service is available 24/7, giving organizations a clear contact when an incident occurs outside normal business hours.
Call (480) 418-6156 now to arrange DOT post-accident testing and confirm what information is needed for the collection.

How to Arrange Testing After a DOT Accident
We accept appointments and walk-ins. For an after-hours incident, contact us before sending the driver so we can confirm availability and coordinate the request.
Follow these steps after a potentially qualifying accident:
- Confirm the request: Tell us the collection is for DOT post-accident testing.
- Provide incident details: Have the accident time, driver information, testing reason, and available citation details ready.
- Send the driver promptly: Arrange the collection as soon as practicable when the applicable federal criteria are met.
- Retain documentation: Keep records from the testing process with the organization’s required program documentation.
When Federal Post-Accident Testing Is Required
Not every commercial vehicle accident triggers federal testing. Under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements in 49 CFR Part 382, the outcome of the crash and, in some cases, whether the driver receives a moving-violation citation determine whether testing is required.
The central accident categories are:
- Human fatality: Drug and alcohol testing is required after an accident involving a human fatality, regardless of whether the commercial motor vehicle driver receives a citation.
- Qualifying bodily injury: Testing is required when someone receives immediate medical treatment away from the scene and the driver receives a citation for a moving violation arising from the crash.
- Qualifying tow-away: Testing is required when disabling damage causes a motor vehicle to be transported from the scene and the driver receives a citation for a related moving violation.
Employers should verify the facts before directing a driver to testing. If the incident doesn’t meet the applicable federal criteria, testing may not be required under DOT rules. The organization may still have separate obligations under its own policy.
Federal Post-Accident Testing Time Limits
Required tests must be completed as soon as practicable. Alcohol testing generally must occur within 8 hours of the accident, while controlled-substance testing must occur within 32 hours.
If alcohol testing hasn’t occurred within 2 hours, the employer must prepare and maintain a record explaining the delay while continuing reasonable attempts. Those attempts must stop after 8 hours for alcohol testing and after 32 hours for controlled-substance testing. The employer must document why the applicable test wasn’t completed within the permitted period.
Information to Prepare for the Collection
Emergency care comes first. Once urgent medical and safety needs have been addressed, gather the information needed to arrange the collection.
Be ready to provide:
- The driver’s identifying and contact information
- The date and time of the accident
- The reason for the DOT testing request
- Known details about injuries, fatalities, tow-away damage, and citations
- Contact information for the employer or designated employer representative
