DOT Post Accident Testing in Louisville

Prompt DOT Post Accident Testing Backed by More Than a Decade of Experience

We provide DOT Post Accident drug and alcohol testing for employers managing time-sensitive decisions after commercial vehicle incidents. Once emergency care, scene safety, and law-enforcement instructions have been addressed, our certified collectors can perform testing at our East Louisville facility or discuss mobile and on-site options when appropriate.

The employer determines whether testing is required based on the applicable Department of Transportation agency rules, its written policy, and the facts of the incident. We help employers turn that decision into an organized collection process.

Call (502) 717-1889 to arrange DOT Post Accident testing or discuss an urgent collection request.

Certified Collectors Keep Documentation Clear

Post-accident collections require accurate identity verification, specimen handling, and chain-of-custody documentation. We conduct each collection with attention to accuracy and confidentiality while giving employers and drivers clear instructions.

Our clean, inviting facility gives drivers a professional setting for employer-directed testing. We also strive to keep wait times under five minutes to reduce driver downtime.

Our employer testing support includes:

  • Collection integrity: Our certified collectors follow applicable procedures for identity verification, drug testing, and breath alcohol testing.
  • Confidential handling: We manage identifying information and collection documentation with discretion.
  • Program support: We offer policy creation, implementation assistance, and ongoing drug testing program management in addition to individual collections.

What to Expect at Our Louisville Facility

Walk-ins are welcome at Fastest Labs of East Louisville. After-hours and post-accident service are also available. Employers should call before sending a driver outside standard facility hours so we can discuss the request and available collection options.

Prepare for these steps before contacting us:

  • Initial request: Identify the collection as DOT Post Accident testing and specify whether the request includes a drug test, breath alcohol test, or both.
  • Check-in: The driver should bring government-issued identification and any paperwork required by the employer’s program.
  • Collection: Our collectors verify the driver’s identity and complete the authorized testing under the applicable procedures.
  • Documentation: We complete the collection records and route results through the authorized reporting process.

Employers should record the accident time, when testing was ordered, when the driver arrived, and any unsuccessful attempts to complete required testing. Maintaining those records remains the employer’s responsibility.

When FMCSA Post-Accident Testing Is Required

Under 49 CFR 382.303, the testing trigger depends on whether the accident involved a fatality, a qualifying injury, disabling vehicle damage, or a moving-violation citation.

For drivers covered by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rules, testing conditions include:

  • Fatality: Testing is required when the accident involves the loss of human life.
  • Qualifying injury: Testing is required when someone receives immediate medical treatment away from the scene and the covered driver receives a citation for a moving traffic violation.
  • Tow-away damage: Testing is required when disabling damage causes a vehicle to be transported from the scene and the covered driver receives a citation for a moving traffic violation.

These criteria apply to drivers covered by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rules. Employers regulated by another Department of Transportation agency should review that agency’s requirements and their written procedures before authorizing a test.

FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Testing Windows

After a qualifying incident, the employer must make a reasonable effort to complete alcohol testing within eight hours of the accident. The controlled-substances test must be completed within 32 hours.

If testing can’t be completed within the applicable window, the employer should document why it wasn’t completed and the efforts made to obtain the test. Because the windows differ, employers should clearly state whether they’re requesting DOT drug testing, DOT alcohol testing, or both.
