DOT Alcohol Testing in Austin

Certified Alcohol Testing Solutions for Austin Employers

We provide DOT alcohol testing for employers responsible for safety-sensitive workers. Our certified collection services address regulated testing events, approved methods, required documentation, and communication with the designated employer representative.

Before collection, employers should identify the testing reason and the Department of Transportation agency governing the employee’s role. We work with businesses of different sizes and industries to coordinate the process from the initial request through reporting test results.

How the Regulated DOT Alcohol Testing Process Works

Federal procedures under 49 CFR Part 40 establish how covered alcohol tests are performed and documented. Screening may use an approved breath or saliva alcohol screening device. If the screening result is 0.020 or greater, the applicable procedure requires a confirmation test using an approved evidential breath testing device (EBT).

We provide testing through a certified breath alcohol technician. A Breath Alcohol Technician or Screening Test Technician follows the applicable federal procedure and completes the Federal Alcohol Testing Form.

A regulated collection generally includes:

  • Employee identification: The technician verifies the individual being tested and reviews the required information.
  • Testing instructions: The technician explains the collection procedure and guides the employee through each required step.
  • Screening and confirmation: The appropriate approved device is used for the type and stage of testing.
  • Result documentation: The result is recorded and communicated according to the applicable procedure.

Random, Post-Accident, & Return-to-Duty Testing

Testing responsibilities vary according to the event and governing agency. Random selections must use a scientifically valid method that gives every covered employee an equal chance of selection. Tests must also be unannounced and reasonably distributed throughout the calendar year.

Event-driven requests can include post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, follow-up, and for-cause testing. Because timing and documentation requirements can differ by agency, employers should confirm the applicable rules before sending an employee for collection.

For a commercial driver governed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, an alcohol concentration of 0.04 or greater or a refusal requires removal from safety-sensitive duties until the applicable return-to-duty requirements are completed. The appropriate response in other situations depends on the governing agency, test type, confirmation result, and whether the event qualifies as a refusal.
