DOT Post-Accident Testing in Denton
24/7 Coordination After a Qualifying Commercial Vehicle Accident
At Fastest Labs of Denton, we help employers arrange regulated drug and alcohol collections after qualifying commercial vehicle accidents. Our DOT Post-Accident service is available 24/7, so you can begin coordinating testing even when an accident occurs after hours.
A designated employer representative, the person authorized to manage the employer’s testing program, can coordinate the collection while the company addresses driver safety, reporting, vehicle damage, and other incident-response duties. We identify the test as federally regulated rather than a general workplace accident screen.
If your review indicates that testing may be required, call (940) 314-5042 to arrange a regulated post-accident collection and discuss the appropriate option.
Choose In-Lab or Mobile DOT Testing
We provide Federal DOT Drug Testing and DOT Breath Alcohol collections at our Denton facility and through mobile, on-site testing facilities. Our certified collectors follow the required procedures for regulated collections.
Employers can choose from these collection paths:
- In-lab collection: When the driver can travel safely, testing can be completed at our clean Denton facility.
- Mobile collection: Mobile DOT Testing may be appropriate when an on-site collection better fits the incident response.
- Regulated test authorization: The employer should identify the request as DOT Post-Accident and provide the driver information and authorization required for the collection.

When FMCSA Post-Accident Testing Is Required
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) doesn’t require testing after every collision involving a commercial motor vehicle. Under 49 CFR Part 382.303, the accident circumstances and, for certain events, the driver’s citation status determine whether testing is required.
The primary qualifying conditions are:
- Fatality: The accident involves the loss of human life, regardless of whether the commercial motor vehicle driver receives a citation.
- Bodily injury: A person receives immediate medical treatment away from the scene, and the commercial motor vehicle driver receives a citation for a moving violation arising from the accident within the applicable federal period.
- Disabling damage: A vehicle must be towed because of disabling damage, and the commercial motor vehicle driver receives a citation for a moving violation arising from the accident within the applicable federal period.
The employer is responsible for evaluating the event. If the answer isn’t clear, consult the applicable DOT agency guidance, established company procedures, or qualified compliance counsel.
Federal Testing Deadlines After a Qualifying Accident
DOT alcohol testing must be administered as soon as practicable, and attempts can’t continue beyond 8 hours. DOT drug testing must also be administered as soon as practicable, with a 32-hour limit. Because the tests have separate deadlines, employers shouldn’t delay one collection while waiting to resolve the other.
If a test isn’t completed within the applicable window, the employer should document the reasons for the delay and follow the relevant federal procedures.
Have this information ready when arranging the collection:
- The driver’s name and identifying information.
- The accident’s date and time.
- The required DOT drug or alcohol test.
- The employer authorization and designated employer representative’s contact information.
- Any paperwork required for employer compliance documentation and chain of custody, which documents control of a specimen from collection through testing.
