Genetic Reconstruction Testing Near Raleigh
Certified DNA Collection When Direct Testing Isn’t Available
Genetic Reconstruction is an indirect relationship DNA test used when a parent or another key person can’t provide a sample. Instead of comparing the individuals directly, the laboratory evaluates DNA from available biological relatives for inherited patterns consistent with the relationship being investigated.
The right testing setup depends on the relationship in question and which relatives can participate. At Fastest Labs of South Raleigh, we help Raleigh-area clients clarify the intended use and identify proposed participants before DNA sample collection begins.

Careful, Confidential DNA Collection in Garner
Relationship testing involves sensitive personal information, so collection quality and confidentiality matter. Our certified collectors draw on more than a decade of industry experience and collect DNA samples in a clean, comfortable Garner facility.
We collect the samples, and our laboratory partners perform the genetic analysis. Facilities that we partner with are accredited by AABB, the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies, for DNA testing results.
How Genetic Reconstruction Testing Works
The process starts with the biological relationship you need to evaluate. We’ll ask who can provide samples and whether the DNA relationship report is intended for personal information or a legal purpose.
The testing process generally includes:
- Relationship Review: We discuss the relationship being investigated and identify which biological relatives may be available.
- Testing Setup: We review the proposed participant group and intended use before collection.
- Sample Collection: Each participant provides a DNA sample using the method selected for the test, which may include a buccal swab taken from inside the cheek.
- Laboratory Analysis: A partner facility compares the submitted genetic information and prepares the relationship report.
Because every family structure is different, we can’t determine the appropriate test from the name of a relationship alone. Contact us before scheduling so we can review the available participants and purpose of the test.
When Indirect Relationship DNA Testing May Apply
Genetic Reconstruction may be considered when an alleged parent or another central participant is deceased, unreachable, unwilling to participate, or otherwise unable to provide a sample. Available relatives provide genetic information that the laboratory can use to assess the indirect biological relationship.
A direct relationship test compares samples from the people at the center of the question. Reconstruction instead relies on related participants, and the laboratory may need additional family information to make the proposed comparison meaningful. Eligibility depends on the specific relationship and who’s available.
Choosing Between Personal & Legal DNA Testing
Establish the intended use before any samples are collected. Personal relationship testing is generally arranged for private information, while legal DNA testing can involve formal identity verification and sample-handling requirements.
Chain of custody documents who collected, handled, transferred, and received each sample. For legal, chain of custody testing, we use facilities that are accredited by AABB. Requirements vary by court, agency, or administrative process, so confirm the necessary documentation before collection.
How to Prepare for DNA Collection in Garner
You don’t need to determine the testing configuration on your own. Before arranging collection at our Garner location, be ready to explain the relationship you want evaluated, identify the biological relatives who may participate, and state whether you need the report for personal or legal use.
We’ll review this information before recommending a testing path. We serve clients from Raleigh, Apex, Garner, and Knightdale, but having relatives nearby doesn’t guarantee that a particular reconstruction test can be performed.
