Visa Applicant Collection at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate

Once the petitioner’s sample is on its way, the visa applicant schedules a DNA testing appointment at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. Before that appointment, the visa applicant must pay the required testing fee directly to the panel physician conducting the DNA sampling and keep the payment receipt. At the appointment, consular officials require the visa applicant’s passport, a photo of the applicant, and that receipt. Missing it means the appointment can be rescheduled, so preparation matters.

A cheek swab sample is collected at the embassy or consulate, witnessed by officials to maintain accuracy and integrity. That sample is then sent directly to the U.S. laboratory for analysis. The embassy or consulate handles shipment; the kit isn’t released to the visa applicant for return.

Results & Next Steps

Once the AABB-accredited laboratory completes its analysis, results go directly to the U.S. embassy or consulate. The visa applicant is then notified to continue with the next stage of the immigration application process.
