DNA Testing for Immigration Purposes Increasing

Our labs have seen an uptick in DNA tests for immigration purposes. There are many reasons why you would need a DNA test for immigration. It is often used to verify a person’s identity if no other documented proof exists, such as birth certificates, photographs, school records and the like. When these kinds of documents or information are not available the U.S. Department of State or USCIS may require DNA testing to prove that the claimed relationship exists.

DNA testing for immigration may allow you to obtain a variety of documents, such as:

  • Immigrant visas
  • U.S. citizenship petitions
  • Applications for U.S. passports
  • Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA)
  • Establishment of a family relationship to qualify an applicant for an immigration benefit

For the purposes of U.S. immigration, proof of a biological relationship by DNA testing means the test must show at least a 99.5% probability. When performing this test, participants are identified via photograph and samples are identified, collected and processed under a strict “chain of custody” by the certified collectors at Fastest Labs. Our labs meet the strictest standards. We use laboratories that are fully AABB accredited, which is required by the US Department of State. In addition, we are one of a select few private labs in the United States with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Quality Assurance Standards (QAS). Our lab is also accredited by Texas Forensic Science Commission as well as ISO-17025 and A2LA. We test 24 markers where other labs may test only 16-21. This produces a more accurate result and lowers the chances of inconclusive results to 0.01%.

DNA samples are collected at Fastest Labs using buccal swabs, which are cotton swabs that resemble Q-tips. Samples are taken from the inside of the mouth in the cheek area. This noninvasive collection provides the same accuracy as a blood test because DNA inside a person’s cheek cells is identical to the DNA inside their blood cells. Duplicate testing of all samples and rigorous quality control ensures that Fastest Labs immigration DNA tests are 100% accurate. Upon receipt of DNA samples from all participants, test results are normally completed and available in less than a week.

Just a word of caution before going forward with DNA testing for your immigration case, ensure you’ve received written authority from the U.S. Department of State, USCIS or U.S. Embassy. Sometimes petitioners and attorneys believe that If you obtain a DNA test and try to present the results to a U.S. immigration authority without authorization that it will be accepted. In reality an unsolicited DNA test results may be rejected. This may complicate your case and require you to retake a DNA test at your expense. Fastest Labs is here to help you with all your immigration DNA testing needs. Please contact us at 281-724-0514 to arrange a test today.
